It started with a single flame. A searing heat that grew purposefully. Searching through the corridors and slithering under doors like a fiery snake. The source was unknown, but the damage it was about to do would soon make itself very known indeed. At the top of a grand staircase, crackling and smoke billowed as the fire claimed its first dormitory, before spreading downwards. Nokomis Nyoko was in her own dorm. Unusual for the giant, but she was finishing up a homework project late into the night. Then she paused, smelling smoke. Standing to her feet, Nokomis wandered into the corridor. The air was dry, but otherwise all she could discern was an orange glow at the end of the hall... "Oh my god," she breathed, her skin crawling defensively but she willed it away. It'd only make it worse. "Fire!" she screamed, running down the corridor towards the glow. She banged her fist against doors she passed. "Fire! There's a fire!"

Before the tree giant had even started running, the heavy scent had roused the young girl from her sleep. Sensitive to smell, it had caused her chest to tighten even from this distance. Valice remained calm, slipping from her bed and walking towards the key location-where the fire raged. If nothing else, she could turn surrounding things to stone to slow it down, but first she’d have to get there. As she trotted down the hall, she glanced around for a fire alarm to pull or something of the like, hopefully there would be at least one.

Charlainie sat up quickly in her bed, startled from the banging on her door. She heard a student shouting, "Fire!" and quickly jumped out of bed. Shuffling around in her room, she grabbed a shirt and covered her face. Smoke covered the lowered part of the room, causing Charlainie to lose the ability to see. Using quick thinking, she shape-shifted into her human form, and dashed to her door. Bursting out of her room, she noticed flames down the hall. Running toward the flames, she banged on the doors she could reach, trying to alert those who might still be asleep near the fire. She coughed and hacked on the smoke filling her lungs, so she made the decision to head down the opposite way, away from the fire.

It wasn't the smell of a fire that garnered Cyrvak's attention, though the screaming, panicked students may have helped. It was the feel of magic, of something piqued in mischief and malice or generally something not quite the norm. He may have been the first staff member to arrive at the scene, but he was certainly not going to be the first staff member to respond in any positive way. The subtle twitch of his lip wasn't of concern, irritation, or anything but a mixture of wry amusement and cynicism. Was he going to help? Only if it were demanded of him. And realistically, only one person here could demand that he do anything. For now, he was just going to watch the fools burn.

Where Cyrvak would be the first staff member to arrive, Evit would be the first staff member to actually do something. Being a werepyre, he'd smelled the smoke from his office, and sensed the stress from the students (he'd stayed late grading papers and planning lessons), which is why it was then that he was sprinting past Cryvak towards the dorms with a passing, "Dickface!" insult to the demon for not helping at all. Into the building and through the hall, he started upstairs on his end (the flames having started on the opposite end of the building). He didn't bother banging on doors. No, he ripped them off. Why? Because if the flames got any worse, and the students tried to open their doors, the effect would immediately engulf them and they'd surely die. And that's something he wants to avoid. So ripping doors off it is, and he's quick to shake each student awake that he comes across, whether their decent or not. This is about life or death, he doesn't have time for decency or "personal space".

Taking action the minute she smelt the smoke, Constance ran to help Evit get the students out of their room. So she was the second out of the staff to do something, because she would literally freak out if she lost ANY of the student's. She would freak out even more if she lost her only child, Willow to the fire. Constance was calm and collected, but yet still scared as she helped the student's up, and out of their rooms.

Nokomis spotted Valice down the corridor. "Valice!" she shouted, running towards her. She could hear a lot of coughing now and spluttering, coming from different directions, as well as slamming doors and urgent footfalls. "What the hell? What'd we do?" she panicked, her hair curling and threatening a greenish hue. The giant darted about, then dared to approach the searing flames, looking passed them. "What about the dorms down there?"

Master Cyrvak had made the scene, clearly, and as she expected, he was not concerned with it. Likely seen more as one of those ‘if you can’t survive you shouldn’t be alive anyway’ things, perhaps? Regardless, Evit and Constance were doing something, waking students and getting them out. Valice flinched a bit, bringing her arm up as she coughed, and moved near the fire. She heard a familiar voice and glanced back, “Just get who you can, and get out.” she called out over the crackling before she turned back. Her eyes darted quickly about the edge of the flames, at the places they were licking at. Her eyes burned, but just getting students out wouldn’t stop the fire. Quickly the young girl moved from one end of the fire to the other, doing her best to turn as much to stone as her body was allowing. She could reach the edge of the fire with her stone transformations, but due to the brightness of the flames, and the smoke blocking so much- she couldn’t get the base to stone. Kneeling, Valice coughed again, blinking several times and squeezing her eyes shut to try and clear what she could out from her eyes. Turning so much to stone so quickly was taxing, and even that wouldn’t stop the fire.

Charlainie had made it to the stairwell when she remembered something. Quickly, she darted back into her room, passing the staff and students. She grabbed the photo of her mother that her father had given her and stuffed it into her pocket. She also grabbed a photo of her father, and ran out toward the fire, stopping a few feet from the roaring flames. She threw the photo of her father into the fire and ran back, bumping into Master Cryvak. She looked up at him and froze, not making a sound.

Cyrvak, though making no motion to react to Evit as he passed, was certainly giving him the bird mentally even as he heard the brat approach. That particular werepyre was someone he would rather see stripped of all that pride and bared to his basest fears, which to him would be far more entertaining than the cocky shit he was. He was broken out of his fiery reverie, however, as the small student bumped into him, a slight he allowed just so he could sneer down at her. Moderately useless, terribly pitiful temperament... This one he never expected to get far in his class. A low growl eminated from his throat, though, with the baring of sharp teeth, as he bent ever so slightly toward her, as if to see how she would react to being subtly threatened by him.

Why Vincent was still at the academy was anyone's guess. There must've been a lot of cleaning up to do, either that or he'd arrived late for his shift. What mattered now was the smoke he could see pouring from a dorm window. "Holy crap," he whispered, bee-lining for the dormitories. As he entered the corridors, he ran to a fire alarm, grabbed the handle and pulled. Suddenly, a loud wailing carried through the school, drowning out the sounds of students and fire and probably waking up the remaining students who hadn't already died in their sleep. "Hello!" he shouted, running up towards the dorms. Several students flew by him but the elf pressed on. With a blast, he sped along, coating the immediate floor before him in a sheet of ice. The heat slowed him, and he looked around. He saw Cyrvak down the corridor with a student. He'd never spoken to the instructor before and assumed he was helping her. "Hey!" he called, approaching the two. "What's happening? Is she alright?"

The halls were utter chaos to say the least and Evit was in the middle of calculating a jump across the flames to the other dorms when the fire alarm was set off and the loud wailing of the siren has the Drow suddenly buckling to his knees clamping his hands over his ears and crying out a curse. Goddamnit, he really wished that things like this were a help to him rather than a hindrance. He'd rather not be known as the man who died from a safety mechanism in a building. Wouldn't that be ironic, but for now his vision is blurred, his equilibrium is forfeit, and he can only try to meekly scramble away from the flames.

Nokomis watched as Valice disappeared into the smoke. The heat was almost suffocating now. She turned, seeing the fire had crept along the walls to seize more dorms. Thankfully those students had escaped, but how much further would the flames go? This all felt so... deliberate. Her senses were dumb to magics, but the intention within the fire was baffling. The girl coughed, her body racking with the motion. She'd watched the flames in a trance and apparently they'd caught her off-guard. A layer of bark burst forth from her skin as she gasped, and suddenly red tongues were leaping at her. The giant scrambled, running away. Black vapour filled her lungs. Nokomis fell, a loud thump sounding down the hall, almost rivaling the wailing alarms.

Valice wrapped her cape around her face, trying to lessen the impact of the haze that gripped at her chest. From her lowered position, she caught sight of Evit moving over her and saw him hit with a clearly unintentional drop. “Hn...” Drawing her claws, she moved to the side wall that hadn’t been yet engulfed and dug her nails into it, using the wall to get through the flames and land beside Evit. As she did, there was another thud from behind her, heavy, sounding about the weight of the tree girl. Letting out a flustered groan, she pulled her scarf off and wrapped it around Evit’s head and face as she gripped his arm and in a rather rough manner, she threw him away from the fire. Part of the ceiling crumpled and Valice was forced to find another way through the fire to check on Nokomis. Coughing, she kneeled, trying to catch any clean air that might still be on the lower part of the hall. Her snakes hissed, twisted deep in her hair. The girl rubbed her eyes, trying to turn more of the area to stone to slow the fire.

Willow ran out of the dorms safe and unhurt, just having very bad coughing, at the time she had gotten out. She frantically looked around for her mom, she kept looking around the Area and seen Cyrvak. So she decided to walk up to him, she stayed quiet though. She had no idea what to ask, to see if her mom was somewhere outside.

Charlainie still frozen, quickly shook her head and tried to compensate for bumping into the demon. "I'm so sorry!" She said, quite loudly, and shuffled away and stood behind him, not knowing what to do. She began to back away from Cyrvak, and turned to run. She tripped over Evit, who was laying on the ground away from the fire. She rolled off him. "Oh my gosh.." She mumbled, and tried to pull the werepyre further away from flames, but she was too weak. "Someone!! Help!!" She shouted, "I can't do this myself!" Her voice filled with despair, but she tried to keep a cool head. "Hang in there sir." She said, still trying to pull him to safety with no success.

Disregarding the child that passed him in order to tend to the downed werepyre (pitiful, how he couldn't control his own sense of hearing. What a downfall in battle.), Cyrvak tuned his attention toward the other student lingering around him, crimson eyes looking down at Willow, knowing perfectly well who she was. Was she expecting something of him, he wondered? Useless without her equally useless mother around? His expression was that of both disdain and uncaring of her plight, though the flames themselves had no real effect on him, personally.

Vincent stared at Cyrvak and then the student, receiving no answer. When the girl ran off, he swiftly followed. "Hey! Don't go that way!" he shouted, before pausing in the midst of black smoke when he saw her trip ahead. "Oh shit," he murmured, bringing his arm across his face to block out the smoke. Then he heard her shouting. "Hello?" he called into the air. Suddenly, Vincent came across her trying to drag someone along. A teacher he vaguely recognised. "Get his other arm," said Vincent, seizing Evit by the wrist and pulling him without too much difficulty. The elf was sweating terribly, his t-shirt sticking to him. He coughed a few times, but as they edged further away from the flames (providing Char followed his instructions) he found himself breathing easier.

It's so sudden how some form of cloth is wrapped around his face, and then he's unceremoniously thrown away from the flames. Evit doesn't mind that at all, really, but it doesn't help him with the siren at all. However, it's not long until he feels himself being hoisted up by one, then two different people, getting dragged further away from the fire. "Wait-" he manages to groan. It's not really the fire that's bothering him, but the sound of that damned siren. "Wait!" He manages just as they're dropping him near Cyrvak, not nearly as far away from the alarm as he'd like. "The alarm... dear fuckin' GOD turn tha' thing off an' I'll be able ta help soon enough-" He sounded tormented to both Charlainie and Vincent, but they can tell he's not bullshitting either of them. "Stop worryin' aboout me anyways. Get the students!"

Constance, ran up behind willow and grabbed her by the arm, looking at Cyrvak with a mean look on her face. She then looked to Evit and the two with him, she literally picked up willow and ran outside and sat her on the ground then ran back inside. So she could find a fire alarm, because she heard what Evit said. She found the alarm and turned it off and, ran to where Evit was.

Finally showing up to the "show", Errtu appeared at Cyrvak's left, grinning with mild entertainment and reverie as he watched the flames dance. "Ah how they are hungry this time of year..." The demon lord mused, mostly to himself, at the one next to him. "Do you suspect this will make our job easier...? Or our "Principal"... angry? At the least... Do you suspect this will make the following year more... entertaining?" and the demon is looking back at Constance, Vincent, and Charlie with an underlying form of seething hunger, grin widening just so at Evit's weakened state. "I know I hope so..."

Nokomis led on the floor, consciousness fleeting like dark flashes through the shadowy air. The fire spat with excitement, embers scattering near the giant like a failed aim. The smoke also lingered near, but just above her. The giant's loss of awareness caused her to morph back to her human form, which somewhat worked in her advantage. With one last grunt of protest, the girl passed out.

Valice paused, slumping a little and placing her hand on the ground for support. Her head was beginning to spin, factors such as lack of oxygen and overexertion pushing her to her limits. Fire didn't have as strong an effect on her as it would others, but being nearly in the flames was a lot. Her previous path was destroyed and now, a mess on the ground she had managed to turn to stone. Dropping low, the girl had to struggle to focus, her body beginning to tremble from having turned so much to stone, though it should help quite a bit with keeping the fire contained, at least. Forcing herself up, she used her crouched position to push off and through the fire, landing hard on her side in the fire, but skidding just out of it. Her clothes were singed, but she appeared unscathed physically. The form on the ground was one she recognized, and just as she had with Evit, the young girl gripped Nokomis' form and (in this case), 'slid' it as far from the fire as she could, dropping to a knee for only a moment to catch herself before she again forced herself up and back to face the fire, this time- trying to turn to stone that which the fire was currently burning in hopes of snuffing out as much as she could.

Oh my. This particular succubus was far from a fighter in the typical sense, but the closest thing to a true magic weaver that currently was aware of this particular anomaly. Ears perked, Kesshou approached the scene, just as scantily clad as ever and seeming not as bothered by the flames as she should. For one, she has a spell about her that negated the effects of flame to a high extent, and for two... Well that was for her to know, and the principal to find out. He was the one who knew everything, right? She smiled and chuckled to herself, making her way casually into the blaze in order to assist what students she found worthy. Of those, Valice seemed a good priority, on whom she cast a light spell of resist flame as she progressed through to find other female students she thought worth saving. She paused at the sight of Willow, looking down at the girl with an ambiguous little smile.

Willow, looked over to Kesshou literally scared out of her mind right now, not knowing what to do. She was completely silent, and shaking because of being, so scared at the time. Willow managed a very slight smile, but it soon faded away off of her face.

Charlie followed instructions and helped Evit. Once told to go help students, she stood up and ran over towards Kesshou and Willow. "Is she...o-okay?" Charlie asked Kesshou, struggling to get her words out. Kneeling down to Willow, she let out a soft smile. "I am scared...too....do you...want some help" She spoke in a low voice, trying not to be shy, during such a horrific event.

Cyrvak looked over to Errtu, the closest thing he could call an 'accomplice' in this place. The other demon immediately took precedence over the other pathetic students here, as a potential relation to the pitiful nature of what surrounded them. "I doubt he will be angry, you know how difficult it is to get a rise out of him. I would hope that some good comes out of this, even if it's the death of a few good for nothings," he replied coldly, rather apathetic about the situation and those around him that seemed to be pleading for help.

Vincent released Evit, side-glancing as the girl ran off. He turned to shut off the alarm, but the noise ceased and suddenly he was staring at Constance. "Constance!" he exclaimed, surprised by her sudden appearance. "He's alright," he said, gesturing down at Evit. "We need to help the students." He swallowed, tonguing the inside of his mouth as the dryness of the air nearly seized his voice altogether. He seemed to be thinking. "Perhaps I could shoot ice at the fire and it'd melt? I don't know... I can't produce enough," he said, despairing and running a hand through his hair..

Even through the chaos, two thing were clear; the alarm had finally shut the fuck up, and he needed to see damn it. With the siren off, the Werepyre let out a low, exasperated growl, missing anything between Vincent and Constance as he ripped the cloth from his face and looked back to the flames as they grew ever larger. What the Hell over? He can tell these are not natural. "Arsen".... he muttered to himself before pushing himself to his feet, seeming off balance before righting himself. He's determined to work this out. "Vincent, ye use yer ice where ye can, but be sure not ta over do it. Charlainie, get as many students as ye can out. I'll jus', help where I can~" With that aside, the werepyre is dashing back into the building. He nearly trips over Nokomis on his way further into the dorm, and he surely wastes no time in grabbing her and dragging her to safety.

With the fires hungrily devouring the dormitories, a mismatched figure finally emerges from the shadows of the rest of the campus, coming to a quiet halt beside Cyrvak and Errtu. "Please... Do aide in... stopping these flames." That smooth and eerie voice commands, even with the strange "speech impediment". Crismon is finally there, it would seem, calm as a placid lake.

Constance, walked over to Evit "you’re welcome Evit." she just said with no emotion to her voice whatsoever. She looked at Vincent and just waved, like she didn't care about anyone right now. So she was in her, more of a bad mood and not talking to anyone, except Evit.

Errtu just got the most unamused expression on his face when he was "suddenly" commanded to help the poor, useless little wastes of life. No matter, he chose this occupation for a reason, as imperceptible as it may seem to most, and so he's moving towards the building, inkish aura rising from the ground and snaking towards the flames as he advances, lazily over all. "Oh fine... As you wish." said in the most mocking, immature tone he can muster (and that's quite impressive) as he reaches out with that aura. "I suppose it is my duty to help those less fortunate than myself..." And then he's chuckling, as if that should be something that everyone gets...

Nokomis' limp form had been dragged throughout the whole corridor now, and suddenly she found herself spluttering in the open air, as oxygen filled her lungs. She was just outside the building, on the grounds. The night was clear, but the warmth of the strange fire could still be felt, though the alarm was off now. It only made way for terrified students and panicking staff members. Nokomis scrambled to her feet and stepped back, looking up at the dorms. She saw a dark aura moving towards it, before disappearing inside all sinister. The giant spun on her heels and ran towards the woods at the back of campus, escaping there.

Valice was unsure why the flames suddenly weren’t as hot as they had been mere moments ago, but she wasn’t going to complain. Her vision was blurred and her eyes were yellow from using her abilities, and red from the massive irritation. Managing to slow and help dissipate the fire had taken a high toll on her, as she had turned nearly all surrounding area to stone in only a couple minutes with no real break period. The gorgon was strong, but she was not nearly as powerful as the teachers yet. The smoke proved too much, and Valice was unable to see any longer to turn anything to stone. She grunted, trying to take a quick step back, away from the raging fire, before she stumbled and dropped to a knee, wheezing. There was more smoke in her lungs than air and even still, the child refused to go down. Yet again, through sheer will, she staggered as she rose to her feet. After this she was going to sleep like a rock. Pun intended. And thankfully, there was something helping to kill the flames. Though she couldn’t really see it, she could certainly feel it. At this revelation, the young girl dropped to a slump, drained.

Kesshou looked down at Willow, smiling cryptically but far more warmly than some of the others right now. "Come on, sweetheart," she intoned, her voice honeylike and tempting as she held out a hand in order to lead the girl from the fire. She was such a helpful sort to those of the female persuasion. After all, a woman should never be left behind, whereas she paid no attention at all seemingly to those who were male.

Willow smiled and took hold of Kesshou's hand. she felt a bit better, now that someone had talked to her. But she was still worried, something was going to happen to her mother. Since her mom went to help, whoever was still inside the dorms. "thank you" she said quietly, as can be as she slowly calmed down.

Cyrvak remained just as unamused as Errtu seemed at first, annoyed to the point of a sneer and yet he too was here for a reason, he supposed. Boredom could get so annoying... But those fiery horns revealed themselves with a flare of power, the flames raging around the dormitory beginning to take on new life, overwhelmed by his own mastery. There was something more sinister about those flames, and for a moment it seemed they would burn all the brighter, all the hotter, before one by one, each lick of flame began to vanish. He could have removed them all at once, but honestly, he felt he was doing enough at this pace.

Vincent nodded at Evit’s instructions, and proceeded to delve back into the flame-consumed section of the dorms. This was a death wish for the ice elemental plus wood-elf, but honestly, he didn’t think about it. He just did what he was told. The male hurried towards the glow, which grew more prominent in his field of vision as he cut through the smoke. Holding his arm to his face, his eyes darted about. He barely noticed the quelling of the fire, as his attention was drawn elsewhere. A figure, lying on the floor. It was indeed Valice. He darted to her side, kneeling down. In one swift movement, he’d go to scoop her up in his arms and carry her down the hall. If successful, Vincent would struggle against the raging heat around him, thus began to radiate a coldness. He would be careful though. He didn’t want to further shock the student in his arms; whose species or race he wasn’t aware of. The coldness was gradual, though too slow to really aid his own weakness. He coughed, clutching Valice, before -what felt like forever- he’d come out of the smoking abyss and nearly collapse himself, laying the girl on the floor. “Need some help here!” he spluttered, before gesturing wildly at Valice’s limp form.

Errtu can feel the fire changing form, taking on a heat much more familiar (and comfortable, actually) and knows that Cyrvak has seized control of the flames. But that is not his concern, so much as helping the panicked students find their way out of the dorms before they choke to death... sadly. Oh how he wishes he could be causing more chaos, but alas- No matter, and with a almost sad sort of sigh the demon’s black aura is pressing against the burning surfaces, snuffing out the flames while arching upwards to help trap the smoke against the ceiling, and keep it from filling the hallways. Students and aiding staff alike run past him, and he hums to himself. “Yes yes, run along now you unappreciative ingrates. No no, there’s no need to thank me for my sacrifice...” And there’s such a melodramatic sigh then.

Valice was feeling weak, and when she was scooped up, she didn’t fight it and in fact, felt a wave of relief as the air became cleaner and she felt a coolness on her. Instead she tried to relax, closing her pained eyes until she was set down. She wheezed and coughed, but shook her hand lightly towards the one who helped her as she sat up. After a bit of a cough fit, she lowered her hand, glancing at the small spots of blood on it. Smoke inhalation, but it wasn’t like it was the end of her. She was a gorgon-demon, for hells sake. Her airways were constricted a bit, but getting plenty of fresh air with calm breaths should be enough to fix it.
“I-I’m-*cough* I’m fine...” she insisted, blinking several times. The first couple blinks, her eyes were yellow and reptilian, but that quickly cleared up and her normal eyes returned, with the exception of red irritation and black from the smoke. There was even some strange noise coming from her hair. It wasn’t exactly coughing, but it was something. The 5 little snakes were limp and simply trying to recover. “I over.....*cough*....exerted......myself....” she was making sure to take breaths, “In.....a poor....situation....” she explained, leaning her head back a bit to open her airways, feeling just sick as hex from the sudden rush of it all. “Thank...you....” she gave Vincent a half smile and a thumbs up, indicating her appreciation and her ‘okay’ status. Valice was a tough cookie.

Cyrvak continued to assimilate the flames, making them his own (with such lacking enthusiasm it's almost palpable) while Crismon watched over like the moon; quiet, but his presence profound. Errtu, as was his nature tried his best to have fun doing something boring, but with a curt order from Crismon not to dally, was made to stop that, his complainant grumbles swallowed up in the smoke.
Valice, Vincent, and the others escaped, however, it was found that others weren't so lucky.

While the fire charred a large section of the school's dorms, it was eventually subdued by the staff members' efforts, especially after Crismon told Cyrvak to put the flames out already. But the troubles didn't end there. The school nurse was overwhelmed, student rehousing issues are abundant (as many students would now be triple bunked in their rooms, and even some day rooms would now be home to students) and the cause... or culprit... is still unknown.

But someone knows.
